Green City Market & the J. Parker

Saturday, May 7th was opening day for the Green City Market in Lincoln Park. Lindsey and I were debating on whether or not we should go since the weather was not so great, but we ultimately decided to go for it. Lori came along and we just walked around for a while.

I think this photo describes Chicago weather perfectly; no one knows what they're supposed to wear. Some people are in shorts, some people have scarves and jackets. I just thought that was funny.

Unfortunately, a lot of the tents were out of the majority of their products including flowers that we were planning on getting our mom, so we didn't purchase from any of the vendors.

Well, except for pizza. The Nomad Food Company had a table selling whole wood fired pizzas. We decided on the Asparagus and Ramps pizza, something a little different from the norm.

It was REALLY windy, so any time a gust came by, everyone would pitch in the help hold down the fort, literally.

They had a portable wood fire oven which I thought was really cool.

The pizzas took less than 10 minutes from ordering it to boxing it up.

And there it is. YUM.

They sliced the pizza for us and put it in a pizza box.

Luckily the grass wasn't wet anymore from this morning's storms, so we found a nice spot for our pizza picnic.

The pizza was really tasty. It has a garlic and oil base with mozzarella cheese, chopped asparagus and ramps. I never had ramps before, but they were really delicious on the pizza.

After finishing the pizza, we headed across the street to the Lincoln Hotel to meet up with Lori's friend Nikki, hoping to warm up a bit with a cup of tea or coffee.

Unfortunately, they didn't have coffee or tea, only alcohol, so we HAD to drink. Dang it.

The views from the rooftop are stunning. Pictures just don't do it justice. We were directly across from the beautiful blue lake and to the right was the city skyline.

Lori and Nikki ordered bloody mary's, Lindsey and I ordered cocktails. I had the "Oh, You Pretty Things" which had vodka, lavender, orange bitters and lemon - really good.

They also offered a small food menu, but we just had a couple of drinks.

Next, since Nikki just moved to Chicago the day before, we wanted to show her around Old Town. We ran into this new doughnuts shop called Doodle's.

They sell doughnuts, bacon by the slice and coffee. I mean, what else could you want? They also have large doughnuts with white icing and you can decorate them yourself.

I had the devil's food one all the way to the right. It was smaller than a normal doughnut but so decadent that it was the perfect sweet snack.

We walked around for a little while and stopped at my favorite Old Town shop, A String and a Strand. It is mostly a bead store, but they have jewelry and other cool finds as well.

Later, we all went back to our apartments to rest for a bit and get ready for dinner. We had an 8:15 reservation at Nellcote in the West Loop. It was on my list of restaurants to visit, but after looking at the menu, I wasn't really sure why I added it.

We arrived at the restaurant and first noticed the gorgeous decor inside. There were chandeliers and white marble dining tables with an eclectic variety of chairs. The room was very dark, which I wasn't really a fan of -- mostly because I wouldn't be able to take good pictures of my food.

I ordered the Spaghetti (so much for not eating pasta until my Cali vacation coming up in three weeks) but asked for it without the shaved tuna. Nikki and Lori had the ramp carbonara, and Lindsey ordered the eggplant pizza. The spaghetti was spicy from the calabrian chilies, but it was really good. The girls seemed to enjoy their dishes too. The pasta portions were pretty small, but that was probably for the best.

We continued our night at RM Champagne Salon. There is a huge gorgeous patio that will be fabulous when the weather is nicer. We went inside and ordered a drink.

Next, we finished our night at Parlor Pizza Bar -- one of my favorite restaurants in the West Loop in terms of atmosphere. The food is really yummy too.

It was a really fun day!
